Step 4: You must complete two steps:

A) Apply to the University of Victoria (UVic) as a "Visting Student". You will require a letter of permission from your home university in order to apply to UVic. You can obtain this from your Registrar’s Office or Student Advising Office. The Letter of Permission waives the requirement for you to submit an academic transcript to Uvic Undergraduate Admissions. The letter of permission allows you to take the course(s) approved by BMSC, but does not entitle you to take other courses at UVic.
Letter of Permission: http://web.uvic.ca/advising/pdfs/forms/LoPform.pdf. This is an example of the form which the Advising Centre for Science, Social Science and Humanities asks their students to fill out.

Go to Uvic Undergraduate Admissions and follow the links or, for more information, phone (250) 721-8121.  You will need to pay the regular $60 application fee and a $200 deposit. The $200 deposit will be applied to tuition but the $60 will not.

B) Once you have been accepted as a visiting student at UVic, then register for the BMSC courses for which you have been accepted at UVic. Course registration numbers at UVic will be included in your acceptance message from BMSC (Step 2). It is your responsibility to ensure that UVic course credits are transferrable to your degree program at your home institution.

If you have trouble registering (i.e. trouble with pre-requisites), contact Rosemary Barlow.

Application procedures for Graduate students registered at a non-member Canadian university. If you do not need credit there is a less expensive, non-credit option.

Step 4: There are three steps to complete your registration:

A. Check to see whether your home university falls under the Western Deans' Agreement (WDA). If it does, apply following the steps above. If not, continue to B:

B: Apply to the University of Victoria (UVic) as a "Visting Student".

As a graduate student, you have options. The situation is somewhat complicated because graduate students pay tuition by semester, not by course. The simplest and least expensive procedure is to apply to UVic as an undergraduate student with prior agreement from your home university to give you graduate credit for your course(s). It is your responsibility to ensure that UVic/BMSC undergraduate course credits are transferrable as graduate or undergraduate credit to your degree program at your home university.

If you decide to apply as a graduate student, you will need to apply to the School of Graduate Studies at UVIC. The University Programs Coordinator will send your name to both the undergraduate admissions clerk and the Graduate Director at UVic so they will not be surprised by your application.

You will require a letter of permission from your home university in order to apply to UVic. You can obtain this from your Registrar’s Office or Student Advising Office. You will be required to submit an official academic transcript. Go to Uvic Undergraduate Admissions and follow the links or, for more information, phone (250) 721-8121.  You will need to pay the regular $60 application fee and a $200 deposit. The $200 deposit will be applied to tuition but the $60 will not.

C: Once you have been accepted as a visiting student at UVic, then register for the BMSC courses for which you have been accepted at UVic. Course registration numbers at UVic will be included in your acceptance message from BMSC (Step 2). It is your responsibility to ensure that UVic course credits are transferrable to your degree program at your home institution.

Non-Credit Option:
Application procedures for persons who do not require credit, including those not registered at any college or university:

Step 4: If you do not require credit for courses, it is not necessary to apply/register at a member university. Instead, you simply pay tuition to BMSC. This tuition is in addition to the BMSC fee that covers room and board. Tuition at BMSC is $500 for a three week course and $1000 for a six week course.

NOTE: Students taking courses for credit have priority over non-credit students.
