Apply & Register - International undergraduate students not on exchange (attending university abroad)

If you do not need credit there is a less expensive, non-credit option.

English Proficiency:
Visiting students whose first language is not English and who have not studied in Canada or another English-speaking country for four recent academic years in an acceptable program from an approved secondary or post-secondary institution must take the Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A score of not less than 575 (233 on the computerized test) is required for undergraduate study.
Click here for more information on International Admission Requirements, or contact the Admissions Office at the University of Victoria.

Step 4: You must complete five steps (A-E):

  1. Apply to the University of Victoria as a visiting student.  To do this, visit UVic Undergraduate Admissions and follow the links to apply online through PASBC.  All the information needed to apply to UVic can be found on this website.
There will be a section in the online application form titled “Specify Application Type”.  You should choose the option “Completing courses for general interest or as a visiting student” from the drop down menu.
You will need to pay a $100 UVic undergraduate application fee when you submit the online form.
Please make sure you are aware of the UVic application deadlines. The entry point for summer courses is May, and for fall courses is September.  However, there may be exceptions for Block 3 summer courses starting in July (entry point deadline July). It is strongly recommended to get applications into UVic as quickly as possible, as there can be a 4-6 week response time.  For more information, phone the UVic Undergraduate Admissions Office at (250) 721-8121.

  2. You will need to submit a “Letter of Permission” from your home university in order to be accepted by UVic Admissions. The Letter of Permission must be sent directly to Undergraduate Admissions at UVic from your home university. You can obtain the letter from the Registrar’s Office or Student Advising Office at your home university. The Letter of Permission waives the requirement for you to submit an academic transcript to UVic Undergraduate Admissions. The Letter of Permission allows you to take the course(s) approved by BMSC, but does not entitle you to take other courses at UVic.
This is an example of a Letter of Permission, which the Advising Centre for Science, Social Science and Humanities at UVic asks their students to fill out.

  3. Once accepted by UVic Admissions, you are required to pay a $200 non-refundable acceptance deposit. The $200 deposit will be applied to your tuition.

  4. You will then need to setup a Netlink ID in order to login to uSource, an online system for registering for courses at UVic.

  5. Register for course(s). You will need to login to uSource to register. Register at UVic for the BMSC course(s) for which you have been accepted.  Course registration codes at UVic will be included in your acceptance message from BMSC (Step 2). It is your responsibility to ensure that UVic course credits are transferable to your degree program at your home institution. For more information about registration, see the Undergraduate Student Registration Guide
If you have trouble registering (i.e. trouble with pre-requisites), contact Rosemary Barlow.
