How to Apply

Step 1: Apply to BMSC - all applicants:

  1. Complete and submit an online application form. Application forms for Summer and Fall programs are different. Please use the correct forms.

  1. Pay your $100 application fee. Mail a cheque or phone the (address, phone number below) with credit card information. Your application fee will be applied to your BMSC fees.

  2. Submit all necessary documentation listed on the application form to the . Documentation can be sent by email, post or fax.

You will be notified by e-mail once we have received your complete application, so please ensure your e-mail address is current and you can receive attachments.


Step 2: Receive acceptance from BMSC: You will be notified by email of the course(s) you have been accepted to, and emailed a list of course registration numbers at member universities. You will also be notified by email if you are not accepted to BMSC. Summer acceptance mid-March, Fall acceptance mid-April.


Step 3: Pay course deposits to BMSC before May 1st:

To pay course deposits, mail a cheque or phone the University Programs Coordinator with credit card information. Course deposits will be applied towards your BMSC fees

Summer - $200 per course. Prior to May 1st, you must pay a deposit to hold your place in courses you were accepted to and still intend to take. Deposits for courses in Block 1 are not refundable.

  • Deposits on courses in Block 2 will be refunded if you notify the in writing, prior to the start of Block 1.
  • Deposits on courses in Block 3 will be refunded if you notify the in writing prior to the start of Block 2.

Fall - $1000 per semester. Prior to May 1st, you must pay a deposit to hold your place in the fall program. This deposit will be refunded if you notify the in writing, prior to July 26th, that you will not be coming.

Course deposits were implemented to encourage students to drop courses with enough notice for waitlisted students to attend. It is not enough to withdraw registration at your member university, you must also notify the at BMSC.


Step 4: Register for course(s) at the correct university - Procedures vary; select the appropriate category, or consider the non-credit (audit) option.

Note: Students taking courses for credit have priority over non-credit students.

  • Undergraduate Students:

    • Undergraduate student at a WCUMSS member university.
      • University of Victoria
      • University of British Columbia
      • Simon Fraser University
      • University of Calgary
      • University of Alberta

    • Undergraduate student at a non-WCUMSS member Canadian university

    • International undergraduate student on exchange to a WCUMSS member university (listed above)
    • International undergraduate student on exchange to a non-WCUMSS member Canadian university
    • International undergraduate student not on exchange to a Canadian University (attending university abroad)

    Graduate Students:

    • Graduate student at a WCUMSS member university (listed above)

    • Graduate student at a non-WCUMSS member Canadian university that falls under the Western Universities Deans' Agreement (WDA)

    • Graduate student at a non-WCUMSS member Canadian university that does not fall under the WDA

    • International Graduate student

Non-Credit Option:
Application procedures for persons who do not require credit, including those not registered at any college or university:

Step 4: If you do not require credit for courses, it is not necessary to apply/register at a member university. Instead, you simply pay tuition to BMSC. This tuition is in addition to the BMSC fee that covers room and board. Tuition at BMSC is $500 for a three week course and $1000 for a six week course.

NOTE: Students taking courses for credit have priority over non-credit students.
