Graduate Student Activities

The BMSC graduate students provide many services to the BMSC community.

"R" Workshop, July 8, 2009

Happy Hour
The graduate students used to run Happy Hour.

Currently, Brad and Beth graciously host a BYOB happy hour at their residence during the summer on Fridays between 5 - 6 pm for BMSC users.

Kayaks
We maintain and provide access to three sea kayaks. Grad students can use them free of charge, and researchers and technical assistants can use them for a yearly fee. Sorry, kayak use is not open to summer undergraduate students.

Sports Equipment
We oversee the maintenance of equipment for many different sports. Sports equipment is available for use by all BMSC users. Our goal is to provide equipment for the following sports: frisbee, volleyball, soccer, and badminton. Equipment is currently stored in the basement equipment room of the main building. Please return anything that you use as soon as you are done with it.

Graduate student hosted speakers
Each summer the GSS will host two distinguished speakers each summer. Funds raised by the GSS and matched by the Director will support travel to and from BMSC. While at BMSC these distinguished guests will give a seminar as well as attend a number of less formal events aimed at encouraging interaction among all members of the BMSC scientific community.

Richard Peter Graduate Student Publication Award
The Richard Peter Award was established in the summer of 2007 by the BMSC Graduate Student Society to reward timely publication of graduate research conducted at BMSC. A cash prize of $250 from the GSS accompanies the award. …MORE
