Workshop: Introduction to Bayesian Statistics for Ecologists

March 6 - 8, 2011
Come for PEEC, stay for the workshop!
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: February 14, 2011

Instructor: Dr. Jean Richardson, University of Victoria
This workshop is targeted at students and professionals (including upper-level undergraduates, post-docs and faculty) attending the Pacific Ecology and Evolution Conference, however those not attending PEEC are also welcome to attend.

Click here for workshop outline (.pdf)

Workshop Description:
With today’s computers and open-source software such as R and BUGS, Bayesian inference is a tool that every ecologist can use. This workshop will focus on the practical aspects of using Bayesian inference: deciding when it is appropriate and preferred over traditional frequentist techniques; parameter estimation; model assessment; computational methods to estimate posterior distributions. The approach will be ‘hands on’, with participants analyzing simulated or sample datasets in each part of the workshop

Pricing:
Member University Participants = $300
Non-member University Participants = $400

Meals included: Sunday dinner, all meals on Monday, Tuesday breakfast and a bag lunch for the road.
